Messaggio al Popolo di Dio dal Sinodo per il Medio Oriente

Ecco il testo del Messaggio al Popolo di Dio a conclusione dell’Assemblea Speciale per il Medio Oriente del Sinodo dei Vescovi, approvato venerdì pomeriggio dai Padri sinodali in occasione della quattordicesima Congregazione generale.

To our brother priests, deacons, religious, consecrated persons and all our beloved and faithful lay persons of good will.



Introduction 1. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you.

The Synod of Bishops for the Middle East has been for us a new Pentecost. "Pentecost is the original event, but also a dynamic learning. The Synod of Bishops is a privileged moment in which it can renew the Church's journey and the grace of Pentecost "(Benedict XVI, Homily at the Opening Mass of the Synod, 10/10/2010).
We came to Rome, we Patriarchs and Bishops of the Catholic Churches in the East with all of our spiritual heritage, liturgical, cultural and canonical, while bearing in our hearts to the concerns of our people and their expectations.
For the first time we met in Synod about His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI and the cardinals and archbishops in charge of the Roman Congregations, the Presidents of Episcopal Conferences of the world affected by the issues in the Middle East, and with representatives of the Orthodox Churches and evangelical community, and invited Jews and Muslims.
To His Holiness Benedict XVI to express our gratitude for the concern and the lessons that illuminate the path of the Church in general e quello delle nostre Chiese orientali in particolare, soprattutto per la questione della giustizia e della pace. Abbiamo riflettuto insieme, alla luce della Sacra Scrittura e della viva Tradizione, sul presente e l’avvenire dei cristiani e dei popoli del Medio Oriente. Abbiamo meditato sulle questioni di questa parte del mondo che Dio, nel mistero del suo amore, ha voluto fosse la culla del suo piano universale di salvezza. Da là, di fatto, è partita la vocazione di Abramo. Là, la Parola di Dio si è incarnata nella Vergine Maria per l’azione dello Spirito Santo. Là, Gesù ha proclamato il Vangelo della vita e del regno. È per questo che vi rivolgiamo questo messaggio, amatissimi fratelli e sorelle, e vogliamo che sia un appello alla fermezza della fede, fondata sulla Parola di Dio, alla collaborazione nell’unità e alla comunione nella testimonianza dell’amore in tutti gli ambiti della vita.

I. La Chiesa nel Medio Oriente: comunione e testimonianza attraverso la storia

2. In Oriente è nata la prima comunità cristiana. Dall’Oriente partirono gli Apostoli dopo la Pentecoste per evangelizzare il mondo intero. Là è vissuta la prima comunità cristiana in mezzo a tensioni e persecuzioni, « perseverante nell’insegnamento degli apostoli e nella comunione, nello spezzare il pane e nelle preghiere » (At 2, 42). Là i primi martiri hanno irrorato con il loro sangue le fondamenta della Chiesa nascente. Alla loro sequela gli anacoreti hanno riempito i deserti col profumo della loro santità e della loro fede. Là vissero i Padri della Chiesa orientale che continuano a nutrire con i loro insegnamenti la Chiesa d’Oriente e d’Occidente. Dalle nostre Chiese partirono, nei primi secoli e nei secoli seguenti, i missionari verso l’estremo Oriente e verso l’Occidente portando la luce di Cristo. 3.3. In our meetings and in our prayers we reflected on the cruel suffering of the Iraqi people. We made the memory of the murdered Christians in Iraq, suffering standing of the Church in Iraq, his children expelled and dispersed throughout the world, bringing us together with them the concerns of their land and their homeland.
The Synod Fathers expressed their solidarity with the people and churches in Iraq and expressed the wish that the emigrants, forced to leave their countries, can find the necessary relief where they come, so that they can return to their countries and live there safely.

3.4. We reflected on the relationship between citizens, Christians and Muslims. II. Comunione e testimonianza all’interno delle Chiese cattoliche del Medio Oriente

4.1. Gesù ci dice: «Voi siete il sale della terra, la luce del mondo» (Mt 5, 13.14). La vostra missione, amatissimi fedeli, è di essere per mezzo della fede, della speranza e dell’amore nelle vostre società, come il «sale» che dona sapore e senso alla vita, come la «luce» che illumina le tenebre e come il «lievito» che trasforma i cuori e le intelligenze. I primi cristiani a Gerusalemme erano poco numerosi. Nonostante ciò, essi hanno potuto portare il Vangelo fino alle estremità della terra, con la grazia del « Signore che agiva insieme con loro e confermava la Parola con i segni che la accompagnavano » (Mc 16, 20).

IV. Cooperazione e dialogo con i nostri concittadini ebrei

V. Cooperation and dialogue with our Muslim fellow citizens

We tell our Muslim fellow citizens, we are brothers and God wants us together, united in faith in God and the twofold commandment to love God and neighbor. Dalla comparsa dell’islam nel VII secolo fino ad oggi, abbiamo vissuto insieme e abbiamo collaborato alla creazione della nostra civiltà comune. VI. Our participation in public life, appeals to the governments and public officials of our countries

10. We appreciate your efforts for the common good and the service of our society. We support you with our prayers and ask God to guide your steps. We turn to you about the importance of equality among citizens. Christians are citizens of original and authentic, loyal to their country and loyal to all their domestic duties. It is natural that they can enjoy their full rights of citizenship, freedom of conscience and religion, freedom in teaching and education and use of media.
We ask you to redouble your efforts to establish a just and lasting peace throughout the region and to stop the arms race. VII. Appeals to the international community

L’Iraq potrà mettere fine alle conseguenze della guerra assassina e ristabilire la sicurezza che proteggerà tutti i suoi cittadini con tutte le loro componenti sociali, religiose e nazionali.
Il Libano potrà godere della sua sovranità su tutto il territorio, fortificare l’unità nazionale e continuare la vocazione a essere il modello della convivenza tra cristiani e musulmani, attraverso il dialogo delle culture e delle religioni e la promozione delle libertà pubbliche.
Noi condanniamo la violenza e il terrorismo, di qualunque origine, e qualsiasi estremismo religioso. Condanniamo ogni forma di razzismo, l’antisemitismo, l’anticristianesimo e l'islamofobia e chiamiamo le religioni ad assumere le loro responsabilità nella promozione del dialogo delle culture e delle civiltà nella nostra regione e nel mondo intero.

12. In conclusion, brothers and sisters, we say with the Apostle John in his first letter: "That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what looked upon, and our hands touched the Word of life - indeed life is manifested, and we saw and what we witness and proclaim to you the eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us - what we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, because you too may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ "(1 Jn 1, 1-3).
This Divine Life, which appeared to the apostles 2000 years ago in the person of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, of which the Church has lived and which she has witnessed throughout the course of its history, will always be the life of our Churches in the Middle East and the object of our witness.
Backed by the promise of the Lord: "Behold, I am with you always, until the end of the world" (Mt 28, 20), we continue on our journey together in hope, and "hope does not disappoint, because the ' God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit was given to us "(Rom 5, 5).
We confess that we have not done so far, all that was in our best chance to live the communion between our two communities. We have not worked enough to confirm you in faith and give spiritual nourishment you need in your troubles. The Lord invites us to personal conversion and collective.
Today we return to you full of hope, strength and determination, bringing with us the message of the Synod and its recommendations for study and put together to apply them in our churches, each according to his state. We also hope that this new effort is ecumenical.
We will turn this humble and sincere appeal to all share a journey of conversion being renewed by the grace of the Holy Spirit and return to God
